Two years ago we got together and started making strategic decisions on how to achieve our goal. When we began, our goal was and still is, to provide a loving tribute to a community that was unique in this country and one which holds very strong and dear memories to those whose identities and lives were shaped by it. As we developed the project, we quickly discovered that a single documentary would not be enough to capture the treasure trove of memories that existed within the Westside community and that we had to find a means to include any and all recollections from those who wanted to participate. It was then that we conceived of an idea similar to the Shoah Foundation where in addition to the documentary we would interview anyone who wanted their memories preserved for a lifetime, and then archive them in a database that would be hosted on the website of Feldman’s Mortuary another very gracious sponsor of our documentary and this special evening. Mazel tov to Jim Cohen and his family on the celebration of their 75th anniversary in our community. It is our goal for those interviews to be available for family members, friends, students or anyone to access. |
